Time to resurrect this crap.

the xx. listen to them.

This album is so fucking cool. And you feel so fucking cool listening to it. Fuck, I’m listening to it right now and I feel fucking awesome. If the music industry was a high school, then this album would be James Franco from Freaks and Geeks. I wish I could end the review right here, because thats mainly the jist of it: its a really cool album. I guess I could go into why its such a cool album(?)

First off, both vocalists kill it on this album. Both Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim have this habit of whispering everything.  Yeah, this isn’t an album that will scream “GIVE IT AWAY NOW” it get your attention. It’ll whisper at you (oh so sensually) and seduce you into it. And if you aren’t into it, I don’t think they’ll give a shit (OMG THEYRE SO COOL). They’ll just continue smoking their cool cigarettes and conversing with each other. That’s what this album feels like: a very sexy conversation.

The instrumentation is stripped down into the bear necessities. Its no surprise that its the first album where I learned a majority of the songs off of. But thats because this isn’t supposed to be a crazy instrument album. The instrumentation is more atmospheric than anything. And when the instrumentation does grab you, it grabs you the same way everything else on the album does: because its really cool (see “Islands”).

If you just bought a leather jacket, listen to this album. New sunglasses? Listen to this album. Bought a bass guitar? Listen to this album. This album is designed to make you feel cool. Because its fucking awesome.

I’m going to go ahead and call the Griffin-on-Perkins dunk ‘The Dunk Seen ‘Round The World’.
